Quarter 2 Week 2

This week in 2nd grade we will be having our Literature Celebration for Charlette's Web on Thursday October 26th. Also, on Friday October 28th is Character Dress Up Day, if you haven't sent in your scholars dress up form please do so before October 26. If your scholar chooses not to dress up they should come in their normal school uniform or spirit shirt.

This week we will be learning:

Spalding:

Phonograms: We are starting to work through all 70 phonograms each week. We recommend choose a few each night to review with your scholar.

Spelling Words: done, do, suit, track, watch, dash, fell, fight, buy ($), by (near), stopping, stop, walk, talk, chalk, grant, soap, news, new, small, smaller, smallest

 
Spelling Test on Friday! 

Don't forget your scholar had Spalding homework Monday-Thursday.
It is located inside their red folder.

Literature: Charlotte's Web, Please email your teacher if you do not have a copy.

Your scholar will be participating in discussions about defining new vocabulary based on text context, answering comprehension questions, and checking their predictions.
 
We will be finishing up our Charlotte's Web this week just in time for our Literature Celebration on Thursday October 27th.

Reading Log:

Each day, students will bring home a book of choice from the GHNO classroom library. At home, students will read this book aloud to an adult

Each day please log:

 1. The title of the classroom library book read.

 2. The total minutes your student spent reading (20 minutes minimum).

 3. Parent initials confirming minutes read.

Please make sure your scholar is reading and this log is filled out and turned in on Mondays.  

It will be counted as a quiz grade

Grammar:
Your scholar will be learning about what is a preposition, what is an object of the preposition, and what the difference between prepositions and adverbs.

Math:

Your scholar will be reviewing adding fluency with renaming in ones and tens based on place value. A review will be sent home Monday night to review with your scholar. A good review strategy is to have your scholar explain 2-3 problems and have them explain the process they got to get the answer. Please sign and return. (The review is for a grade.
 
History:
The scholars will be finishing the Ancient China Unit. They will be learning about the Chinese New Year and create lanterns!

Study Guide: Will be sent home Monday, October 23rd 
Test: Wednesday October 25th
 
Science:
            Students will continue in Moon Unit.
            
            Study Guide: Will be sent home Friday, October 27th 
Test: Wednesday November 1st

Poem:
Bed in Summer By: Robert Louis Stevenson
Due: November 3rd 

Help your scholar at home start practicing this poem. They will have to recite the title, authors and poem in-front of their classmates.
