Quarter 4 Week 6

Hello Second Grade Families,

Reminder: We have this Friday, April 24th off from school.

Content Corner This Week:
Math - 
Unit: Data (Graphs)
We will be starting our next unit on Data (Graphs). Scholars will be introduced and interpret data given with picture graphs, bar graphs, tally charts, and line plots.

Videos were sent home on the weekly blog email if you need help!

Please check agendas/red folders for homework when assigned.

Spalding - 
ALL OF SPALDING WILL BE IN CURSIVE!

Phonograms: 
We are starting to work through all 70 phonograms each week. We recommend choosing a few each night to review with your scholar.


Spelling Words:

Don't forget your scholar has Spalding homework 
Monday-Wednesday.
It is located inside their red folder.

Grammar - 

Scholars will be continuing to identify and label parts of speech within given sentences.

Prepositions: a joining word, it joins the noun to the rest of the sentence
Object of the Preposition: always comes after the prepositions and answers
Possessive Pronouns: a pronoun that replaces a possessive noun
Possessive Noun: name of a person, place or thing that owns something


History - 

Unit: Civil Rights Leaders
Scholars will be starting our next unit talking about different Civil Rights Leaders. 
This week: Mary McLeod Bethune and Eleanor Roosevelt

Science -
Unit: Resources (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) / Moon Phases
Scholars will exploring and learning about the conversation of resources. They will also begin learning about the different moon phases

Recycle Project sent home on Monday, April 13th
DUE: Thursday, May 7th

Natural Resources Study Guide sent home on Thursday, April 23th
Natural Resources Unit Test on 

Literature -
Unit: The Boxcar Children

Students will be build reading comprehension be defining new vocabulary based on context, answering comprehension questions, and checking their predictions.

Reading Log-
Each day, students are reading a book from their home library for a minimum of 20 minutes. At home, students will read this book aloud to an adult.

Each day please log:
1. The title of the book from home.

2. The total minutes your student spent reading (20 minutes minimum each night).

3. Parent initials confirming minutes read. 

Please make sure you scholar is reading each night and this log is filled out and turned in on MONDAY!!

Poem -
"Harriet Tubman" By: Eloise Greenfield
DUE: April 20th
Please help your child practice nightly. They are required to speak the title, author and poem from memory in front of their classmates.
