Quarter 3 Week 6

Tuesday, February 18th

This week we will be learning:

Spalding:

 WE ARE CONTINUING THE FOUNDATION OF CURSIVE by learning the captial letters! 

Phonograms: We are starting to work through all 70 phonograms each week. We recommend choose a few each night to review with your scholar.

Spelling Words: care, try, delay, bear (eat), bare, clear

Cursive: We are continuing cursive by learning our capital letters. 

ALL SPALDING HOMEWORK IS NOW DONE IN CURSIVE.

Spelling Test on Friday! 

Don't forget your scholar had Spalding homework Monday-Thursday.
It is located inside their red folder.

Literature: 

 Your scholar will be continuing the classic to keep "Little House in the Big Woods" this week. They will be working on reading comprehension skills, listening skills and answering questions about the text. If your scholar has not brought their book to school send it with them this week.

Reading Log:

Each day, students will bring home a book of choice from the GHNO classroom library. At home, students will read this book aloud to an adult

Each day please log:

 1. The title of the classroom library book read.

 2. The total minutes your student spent reading (20 minutes minimum).

 3. Parent initials confirming minutes read.

Please make sure your scholar is reading and this log is filled out and turned in on Mondays.  

It will be counted as a quiz grade


Grammar:
Your scholar will listen and discuss the story read to them. Then students will write a summary about the story in their own words while using complete sentences with details from the story and referencing comprehension questions for guidance.
 
Math:
Your scholar will learning about bar modeling using addition and subtraction word problems. Along with the learning the different between a part-whole model and a comparison bar model.

Please make sure your scholar is completing their math homework nightly when assigned. 
 
 
History:
 We will also be continuing Americans Move West. They will be learning about the arrival of the Railroad and life out west and the Trail of Tears and the death of the bison.

 
Science:
Your scholar will be continuing our unit on Electricity and Magnetism. They will be discovering where different items derive, get, their source of electricity from.
 
Poem:
The Land of Story-Books By: Robert Louis Stevenson
Due: March 3rd

Your scholar will be practicing at school but we highly encourage parents to help their scholar practice each day at home. Making sure that they are showing expression, following punctuation, and saying the title and author.

3/3 - Re-Enrollment begins for Next Year

3/7 - No School (Teacher Professional Development Day)

3/10-14 - Spring Break

3/25 - Deadline to Order Yearbooks GHNO 24-25 Yearbook
    Extras will not be available through the campus or the publisher.

4/12 - Fiestaval 4:00-8:00pm (Tickets go on sale March 1st)
