We have made it to the last week of the school year!
We are fast approaching the end of the school year, please keep a few things in mind when planning for vacation. The first is that at GHNO, we continue instruction and learning until the very last day of school, May 29th. The second is that on Thursday, May 29th, we will have a cumulative math assessment as well as a final Spalding test. These tests will not be given early. Please plan to have your scholar present for these assessments.
This week we will be learning:
Spalding:
Phonograms: We are starting to work through all 70 phonograms each week. We recommend choose a few each night to review with your scholar.
Spelling Words: order, push, point, within, body, field, cheese, earn, edge, third
Cursive: We will continue to having our weekly phonograms, homework, and spelling test in cursive.
Spelling Test on Thursday!
Don't forget your scholar has Spalding homework Tuesday-Wednesday.
It is located inside their red folder.
Literature:
Your scholar will be listening to a read aloud and illustrating the story as they read.
Poem: We will be reviewing the poems we have learned this year.
Reading Log: No reading log this week. Please continue to have students read 20 minutes a night.
Grammar:
Your scholar will be working on their 2nd grade memory book with writing and illustrations pertaining to different sayings and idioms they have learned throughout the year.
Math:
Your scholar will be completing their End of Year Cumulative Assessment Review to prepare them for the their test on the last day of school. This review will include concepts of place value, addition and subtraction strategies, word problems with bar models, measurement, repeated addition (multiplication), graphing, telling time, shapes, and fractions.

History:
Your scholar will be working on their 2nd grade memory book with writing and illustrations pertaining to different history units they have learned throughout the year.
Science:
Your scholar will be working on their 2nd grade memory book with writing and illustrations pertaining to different science units they have learned throughout the year.
What to expect on the last week:
- All days are early release this week.
- Students will still need a snack and a lunch every day.
- Students will gradually bring items home over the course of the last two weeks. Please remove any extra items from backpacks.
- We will still be learning throughout the week. We will have fun, but we will be using the time productively!
- Students will be preparing for the last Spalding and Math tests on 5/29.
What to expect on the last day:
- Students will still need a snack and a lunch.
- Students will take their last Spalding and Math test, both for a Quarter 4 test grade.
- Students will bring home any remaining items, which should be very few, from the classroom.
