Quarter 1 Week 5

Hello Second Grade Families,

Content Corner This Week:

Math - 
Scholars will be exploring and discovering how to identify, count and exchange bills into different values. A great way to think of money is using place value as in hundreds, tens, and ones.

Check Up 1.3 Review - Sent home Thursday, September 11th

Please have your scholar teach you how to do 1 or 2 problems to help them review these concepts. Sign and return the next day.

Spalding - 
Phonograms: 
We are starting to work through all 70 phonograms each week. We recommend choosing a few each night to review with your scholar.

Spelling Words: even, without, afternoon, Friday, hour, our, wife, state, July, head, story, open, short, lady, reach, better, water, round, cost, price, become, class, horse, care, try, move, delay, pound, behind, around

Spelling Test on Friday! 
Don't forget your scholar has Spalding homework 
Monday-Thursday.
It is located inside their red folder.

Grammar - 
Learning how to identify adjectives and article Adjectives within a simple sentence, along with reviewing the grammar rule of using A or An in a sentence.

History - 
Unit: Ancient India
Learning about the Festival of Lights, the story of Buddha, Jataka Tale and King Asoka.


Science -
Unit: Properties of Matter
They will be discovering what happens when we heat up or cool down different states of matter. Also, learning how different properties impact each state of matter.

Literature -
Reading The Dragons of Blueland  chapters 7-11. 
Students will be be bringing their book home on Thursday.

Please bring Charlotte's Web by Friday!

Reading Log-
Each day, students are reading a book from their home library for a minimum of 20 minutes. At home, students will read this book aloud to an adult.

Each day please log:
1. The title of the book from home.

2. The total minutes your student spent reading (20 minutes minimum each night).

3. Parent initials confirming minutes read. 

Please make sure you scholar is reading each night and this log is filled out and turned in on the following MONDAY.


Poem -
"Where Go the Boats" by Robert Louis Stevenson
DUE: SEPTEMBER 29th
Please help your child practice nightly. They are required to speak the title, author and poem from memory in front of their classmates.
