Quarter 3 Week 3

Monday, January 27th

During the 5 days of giving in December some scholars had to borrow clothes from the nurses office if you are have those extra clothes please wash and return them with your scholar so the nurses office can be fully stocked with extra clothes when needed. 


This week we will be learning:

Spalding:

Phonograms: We are starting to work through all 70 phonograms each week. We recommend choose a few each night to review with your scholar.

Spelling Words: use, thought, person, nor, or, January, mean, vote, court, copy, been, be, yesterday, among, question, quest, doctor, size, December, dozen, there, their, they're, tax, number, October, reason, fifth, baking, bake

                                                             Spelling Test on Friday! 

Don't forget your scholar had Spalding homework Monday-Thursday.
It is located inside their red folder.

Literature: 

Your scholar will start our unit on Tale Tales by reading about Paul Bunyan, Pecos Bill, and John Henry. They will be building reading comprehension by defining new vocabulary based on context, answering comprehension questions, and checking their predications.

Reading Log:

Each day, students will bring home a book of choice from the GHNO classroom library. At home, students will read this book aloud to an adult

Each day please log:

 1. The title of the classroom library book read.

 2. The total minutes your student spent reading (20 minutes minimum).

 3. Parent initials confirming minutes read.

Please make sure your scholar is reading and this log is filled out and turned in on Mondays.  

It will be counted as a quiz grade


Grammar:
Your scholar will be learning about what a procedural writing is, why we use it and help create a procedural writing on how to plant a seed and create their own booklet on their own How To booklet.
 
Math:
Your scholar will be review the concepts of chapter 3 with involves word problems with subtraction along with reviewing how to subtraction with renaming in the ones, tens, and hundreds using a vertical equation. They will concluding this unit on Wednesday with a Unit test. On Thursday, we will starting Chapter 4: Addition and Subtraction Using Bar Models.

History:
 
Your scholars will continue to learn about the war of 1812. We will be learning about how American got into the war along with discovering why/how the Star-Spangled Banner was written.

War of 1812 UNIT TEST on Thursday, February 6th 

 

Science:
Scholars will be able to demonstrate their understanding of the Unit over Exploring Land and Water by completing a comprehensive review activity, including identifying different landforms, bodies of water, and their characteristics.

REVIEW sent home on Friday, January 24th

UNIT TEST (Exploring Land and Water) will be on Friday, January 31st  

 
Poem:
The Preamble of the United States' Constitution: Due by February 3rd.

Your scholar will be practicing at school but we highly encourage parents to help their scholar practice each day at home. Making sure that they are showing expression, following punctuation, and saying the title and author.
