Phonograms: We are starting to work through all 70 phonograms each week. We recommend choose a few each night to review with your scholar.

Your scholar will be finishing "The Courage of Sarah Noble" this week and starting our folktales unit. They will be working on reading comprehension skills, listening skills and answering questions about the text. If your scholar has not brought their book to school send it with them this week.
CLASSIC TO KEEP NEEDED:
Each day, students will bring home a book of choice from the GHNO classroom library. At home, students will read this book aloud to an adult.
Each day please log:
1. The title of the classroom library book read.
2. The total minutes your student spent reading (20 minutes minimum).
3. Parent initials confirming minutes read.
Please make sure your scholar is reading and this log is filled out and turned in on Mondays.
It will be counted as a quiz grade.
Your scholar will be practicing sentences on identifying subject verb agreement and a prepositional phrase. They will learn a new part of speech, Subject Pronouns! They will be learning grammar jingles to help them remember parts of speech.
Your scholar will be review the concepts of chapter 3 with involves word problems with subtraction along with reviewing how to subtraction with renaming in the ones, tens, and hundreds using a vertical equation. They will concluding this unit on Wednesday with a Unit test. On Thursday, we will starting Chapter 4: Addition and Subtraction Using Bar Models.
Chapter 3 Unit Test: Tuesday, January 23th
Your scholar take the end of unit test for the Constitution. They will begin learning about the war of 1812. The unit test will be on Tuesday. The review was sent home Friday, 1/19, for students to study and was to be returned on test day with parent signature.

Your scholar will be learning about the end of the digestive system and how the body gets rid of waste in several different ways.
Your scholar will be practicing at school but we highly encourage parents to help their scholar practice each day at home. Making sure that they are showing expression, following punctuation, and saying the title and author.
