Phonograms: We are starting to work through all 70 phonograms each week. We recommend choose a few each night to review with your scholar.
Spelling Words: mail, male, eye, I, open
We are starting cursive this week in second grade! Please look inside your scholars red folder for correct letter formation as it might be different then how the adults learned it in the past.
Spelling Test on Friday!
Your scholar will be starting the classic to keep "Little House in the Big Wood" this week. They will be working on reading comprehension skills, listening skills and answering questions about the text. If your scholar has not brought their book to school send it with them on Monday, or as soon as possible.
CLASSIC TO KEEP NEEDED:
Each day, students will bring home a book of choice from the GHNO classroom library. At home, students will read this book aloud to an adult.
Each day please log:
1. The title of the classroom library book read.
2. The total minutes your student spent reading (20 minutes minimum).
3. Parent initials confirming minutes read.
Please make sure your scholar is reading and this log is filled out and turned in on Mondays.
It will be counted as a quiz grade.
Your scholar will be review different parts of speech and labeling them within a sentence. The parts of speech are pronouns, subjects nouns, adjective, verb, adverb, article adjectives, prepositions and object prepositions.
Your scholar will be learning about bar modeling using addition and subtraction word problems. Along with learning how to draw the bar model to match the information given in the word problem.
Your scholar be taking their War of 1812 Unit test this week. We will also be starting our next week covering Americans Move West. They will be learning about going west by land, river, steamboat, and canal.

Your scholar will be starting a new unit covering Electricity and Magnetism. They will be able to identify/observe/describe evidence of electricity in their surroundings.
Your scholar will be practicing at school but we highly encourage parents to help their scholar practice each day at home. Making sure that they are showing expression, following punctuation, and saying the title and author.
