Singapore Mathematics

 Welcome to the Math page!

Our 2nd Grade team wants to provide as many resources to support student learning at home as we can! We have created this page in order for parents to have an easily accessible collection of resources for math.

Homework Expectations:

As a school, we believe that the majority of class time should be spent in the collective pursuit of what is true, good, and beautiful about subject. Homework time is reserved primarily for reading and for meaningful independent activities that support the curricular objectives of the classroom. Students should expect to do meaningful homework each night.

Students should complete their homework independently. We encourage parents to ask guiding questions if their student gets stuck, but please do not just tell them what they should do. If a student is regularly struggling, we ask that parents write a note on the HW so the teacher can see exactly where the student was struggling.

Please do not make students correct errors on their math homework. Their homework should accurately reflect the student's abilities as homework serves as a way for teachers to see if a student was able to independently complete the assignment correctly.

Math homework should last no longer than 20-25 minutes. If your student has been working diligently for 20-25 minutes and has not completed the assignment, a parent can sign off at that point with "25 minute mark." The teacher will check in with the student next day and the student will not be penalized for a late assignment. A conversation will need to be had if this becomes a regular occurrence.
