Quarter 1 Week 3

Monday, August 28

This week we will be learning:

Spalding:
Phonograms: we are review these this week (er, ir, ur, wor, ear, aw, au, ck, wh, ed, ew, ui, oa, gu, ph).

Spelling Words: became, brother, rain, keep, start, eye, mail, male, female, glass, party, upon, they, two, twin, twice, twelve, twenty, & between.
Spelling Test on Friday!

Don't forget your scholar has spalding homework Monday-Thursday.
It is located inside their red folder.

Literature: Dragons of Blueland, please email your teacher if you do not have a copy.

Your scholar will be participating in discussions about authors purpose, character traits, and the differences between persuade, inform, and entertaining reading passages.
 
On Tuesday, your scholar will begin Dragons of Blueland. They will bring Elmer and the Dragon book home.
 
Grammar:

Your scholar will be review alphabetizing, nouns, verbs and adverbs. They will also by learning when to use a/an in sentences.


Math:

           Students will be practicing counting on and number patterns. 

Math homework pages that need to be completed can be found inside your students agenda.


History:
We will be starting our first history unit over Ancient India. Your scholar will be in discussion about the geography of Asia, different civilizations, the castes system, and about Hinduism. 

Poem
The Cow to be memorized by September 8th
 
Your scholar is required to speak the title and author of the poem and recite the poem from memory in front of their classmates.

*Please help your scholar memorize and recite the poem while at home.*

Reading:
Students will be bringing home their first reading log on Monday. They should be reading 20 minutes a day. We will be sending home leveled readers this week or next week. Until those readers come home, your student may pick a book of their choice. These reading logs will be checked daily and then collected on the first day of each week and counted for a test grade.

Important Dates:
Tuesday, August 29 is K-2 Curriculum Night

Wednesday August 30 is 3-6 Curriculum Night

Friday, September 1 is an Early Release at 1:25
