Hello Second Grade Families,

Content Corner This Week:

Math - 
Scholars will be exploring and discovering how to identify, count and exchange bills into different values. A great way to think of money is using place value as in hundreds, tens, and ones.

Check Up 1.3 Review - Sent home Thursday, September 10th

Please have your scholar teach you how to do 1 or 2 problems to help them review these concepts. Sign and return the next day.

Spalding - 
Phonograms: 

We are starting to work through all 70 phonograms each week. We recommend choosing a few each night to review with your scholar.

Spelling Words: better, water, round, cost, price, become, class, horse, care, try, move, delay, pound, behind, around, burn, camp, bear, bare, clear

Spelling Test on Friday! 

Don't forget your scholar has Spalding homework 

Monday-Thursday.

It is located inside their red folder.

Grammar - 

This week in grammar we will continue practicing identifying nouns, verbs and adverbs in sentences. We will introduce identifying adjectives and Article adjectives in sentences. We will also learn about the saying “Better late than never”.   We will have a quiz on Thursday over when to use a vs an. We have practiced this skill for 2 weeks now.   Example: Mary had ___ apple. (We say Mary had AN apple because the next word starts with a vowel.)

Example: Mary had ____ lollipop. (We say Mary had A lollipop because the next word starts with a consonant.)

History - 

Science -
Unit: Properties of Matter

This week we are continuing to learn about properties of matter. We will be doing a scavenger hunt on Wednesday and a quiz on Friday.

Literature -

This week we will reading chapters 5-7 of Charlotte's Web

Reading Log-

Each day, students are reading a book from their home library for a minimum of 20 minutes. At home, students will read this book aloud to an adult.

Each day please log:

1. The title of the book from home.

2. The total minutes your student spent reading (20 minutes minimum each night).

3. Parent initials confirming minutes read. 

Please make sure you scholar is reading each night and this log is filled out and turned in on this FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 11.

Poem -
"Where Go the Boats" by Robert Louis Stevenson
DUE: SEPTEMBER 28th
Please help your child practice nightly. They are required to speak the title, author and poem from memory in front of their classmates.
