Quarter 3 Week 7

Hello Second Grade Families,

Westward Expansion Celebration:
We will be celebrating this event on March 3rd, 2026 from 1:30-3:00. If you are willing and able, please review the signup and help us with what you can to make this event memorable.

Non-perishables items are needed by Monday, March 2nd.
All food items are needed on the day of celebration on Tuesday, March 3rd.

Content Corner This Week:
Math - 
Unit: Measurement
We will starting our next unit covering measurement. Scholars will be learning how to measure with centimeter, meters, and inches this week.

Check Up 5.1 on Friday, February 26th

They will be using a hands on approach with using base-ten blocks during each days lesson.

Videos were sent home on the weekly blog email if you need help!

Please check agendas/red folders for homework when assigned.

Spalding - 
WE ARE CONTINUING CURSIVE!!

Phonograms: 
We are starting to work through all 70 phonograms each week. We recommend choosing a few each night to review with your scholar.

Spelling Test on Friday! 
Don't forget your scholar has Spalding homework 
Monday-Thursday.

Grammar - 

Scholars will be learning how to become descriptive writers. We will do a whole class example of a Thanksgiving Dinner and these will be choose a topic to be creators of their own descriptive  writing .

Editing Check list will be sent home on Wednesday, February 25th
It will be due the next day! 

History - 
Unit: Americans Move West / Starting: Civil War
Scholars will be continue learning about Americans Move West. They will be learning about the Sequoyah and the Cherokee Language.

Americans Moving West Study Guide sent home on Monday, February 23rd
Unit Test will be on Wednesday, February 25th

Science -
Unit: Force, Motion, Energy, and Sounds
Scholars will exploring two types of force, gravity and magnets. They will be partaking in an experiment with our gravity works with marbles through different mazes.

Study Guide sent home on Thursday, February 13th
Unit Test on Friday, March 6th

Literature -
Unit: Little House in the Big Woods
Ch. 7-8

Students will build reading comprehension by defining new vocabulary based on context, answering comprehension questions, and checking their predictions.

Please write your scholars name inside so if it gets misplaced it can be easily returned to them!

Reading Log-
Each day, students are reading a book from their home library for a minimum of 20 minutes. At home, students will read this book aloud to an adult.

Each day please log:
1. The title of the book from home.

2. The total minutes your student spent reading (20 minutes minimum each night).

3. Parent initials confirming minutes read. 

Please make sure you scholar is reading each night and this log is filled out and turned in on MONDAY!!

Please help your child practice nightly. They are required to speak the title, author and poem from memory in front of their classmates.
