Quarter 3 Week 6

Hello Second Grade Families,

2nd Grade Field Trip Information:
Where: Natural Bridge Caverns

When: Wednesday, February 18th, 2026

Address: 26495 Natural Bridge Caverns Rd, San Antonio, TX 78266

All students must ride the bus to and from the venue.

Sack Lunch From Home:
  • Your student will bring a lunch in a disposable bag with NAME and SECTION.
  • Everything that your scholar brings for lunch NEEDS to be disposable (can be thrown away)
  • If you sign up for a school lunch your student will receive in at school.
Uniform:
  • Your student needs to be in their school uniform BUT can wear tennis shoes.
Arrival:
  • Your student NEEDS to arrive on time.
What to Bring:
  • A sack lunch (if your student is not receiving one from school)
  • Tennis Shoes (already wearing them)
  • Backpack (they will still turn in homework/receive their Wednesday homework.
Westward Expansion Celebration:
We will be celebrating this event on March 3rd, 2026 from 1:30-3:00. If you are willing and able, please review the signup and help us with what you can to make this event memorable.

Non-perishables items are needed by Monday, March 2nd.
All food items are needed on the day of celebration on Tuesday, March 3rd.

Content Corner This Week:
Math - 
Unit: Bar Model w/ Word Problems (Addition and Subtraction)
We will be finishing our unit that will include word problems and using bar models to help explain the problem with a structured and laid out format.

Chapter 4 Unit Review sent home on Tuesday, February 17th
Chapter 4 Unit Test on Thursday, February 19th

Cumulative Assessment # 2 will be on Friday, February 20th


They will be using a hands on approach with using base-ten blocks during each days lesson.

Spalding - 
WE ARE CONTINUING CURSIVE!!

Phonograms: 
We are starting to work through all 70 phonograms each week. We recommend choosing a few each night to review with your scholar.

Spelling Words: 
care, try, bear, bare, clear, hurt, sir, felt

Spelling Test on Friday! 
Don't forget your scholar has Spalding homework 
Monday-Thursday.
It is located inside their red folder.

Grammar - 

Scholars will be learning how to identify prepositions. They will be looking at different example sentences and looking at how to find these prepositions.

Prepositions: a joining word, it joins the noun to the rest of the sentence
Object of the Preposition: always comes after the prepositions and answers
Possessive Pronouns: a pronoun that replaces a possessive noun


History - 
Unit: Americans Move West
Scholars will be continue learning about Americans Move West. They will be learning about the arrival of the railroad, life out west, cowboys, cowgirls, the Trail of Tears and the Death of the Bison.

Science -
Unit: Force, Motion, Energy, and Sounds
Scholars will explore different devices that make sounds and determine their noise level, sound, vibration speed, and volume.

Literature -
Unit: Little House in the Big Woods
Ch. 5-6

Students will build reading comprehension by defining new vocabulary based on context, answering comprehension questions, and checking their predictions.

Please write your scholars name inside so if it gets misplaced it can be easily returned to them!

Reading Log-
Each day, students are reading a book from their home library for a minimum of 20 minutes. At home, students will read this book aloud to an adult.

Each day please log:
1. The title of the book from home.

2. The total minutes your student spent reading (20 minutes minimum each night).

3. Parent initials confirming minutes read. 

Please make sure you scholar is reading each night and this log is filled out and turned in on MONDAY!!

Poem -

DUE: March 9th
Please help your child practice nightly. They are required to speak the title, author and poem from memory in front of their classmates.
